More than just a stationery store, we are an invitation to take a break.

A stationery store that claims to be modern, but is actually old-fashioned.

Papelaria Moderna was born from the memory of a slower time.
We sell cards, envelopes, notebooks, writing paper, pencils, and anything that reminds us of a way to slow down: write by hand again, offer a word that is not so easy to say, or believe in the promise that a blank notebook offers.

Between local production and careful curation

The project was born from the desire to restore time and meaning to paper. An email will never replace the feeling of receiving a postcard in the mailbox. We work with expert artisans, many of them family businesses, small workshops that continue to produce with their own hands, preserving traditional techniques such as letterpress , hand bookbinding, pad printing, and engraving. At the same time, we select objects from other suppliers who share the same attention to detail, understated beauty, and durability. The result is a diverse collection, yet consistent with our vision: pieces that speak of time, care, and tactile experience.

Responsible materials

The papers we use for production, as most of our suppliers, are FSC certified: papers sourced from responsibly managed forests, guaranteeing environmental, social and economic benefits.

FSC certification, granted by the Forest Stewardship Council, guarantees that paper and wood products protect biodiversity, respect the rights of workers and local communities, and are economically viable.

Reuse and recycling

Whenever possible, we reuse packaging that has already had another life and incorporate end-of-stock or graphic waste paper into our productions, reducing waste and expanding the usage of materials

Local production

For our own products, we collaborate with letterpress printers, printing houses, and bookbinders in Portugal, supporting traditional crafts and techniques, with attention to detail and quality control.

who?

The founder

The brand was founded by graphic designer Inês Maldonado, fascinated by the world of ephemeral objects and the stories they hold. Since childhood, she has collected forgotten papers: faded envelopes, business cards from bygone eras, family photographs, all of which serve as archives and inspiration today.

“How objects are handed on is all about story-telling. I am giving you this because I love you.
Or because it was given to me. Because I bought it somewhere special. Because you will care for it. Because it will complicate your life. Because it will make someone else envious. There is no easy story in legacy. What is remembered and what is forgotten?”
